Papers, 1869-1881.

Collection contains letters written to Robertson, a shareholder and board member of several companies, including the Shanghai Steamship Navigation Co. and the Union Steamship Navigation Co. He also wrote journal articles about China and British policy. Six letters are from W.U. Lay from Japan, and are mainly concerned with Lay's proposals of forming a journal to represent British and American views on China and Japan. The name was to be Pacific Mail. The letters also discuss the Japan Times. Five letters are from Charles Wycliffe Goodwin, president of the North China Branch of the Asiatic Society and a British judge. One letter is from Edward Cunningham, chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Council. He discusses views of President Grant. Two letters from G.F.L. in N.J. discuss water supply and tunnel projects in New York city. A letter form T. Hanbury invites Robertson to his farewell party.
